Last week, Landmark Theatres closed the Oriental – not for good, though, as Milwaukee Film will officially move into the gorgeous theater and begin running it on July 1, with plans to renovate and repair the almost-century-old movie palace before reopening in early August. But even though we've known this was coming since almost a year ago, there was still some confusion and tears shed.

Well, in case anyone is still looking for reassurance that the Oriental Theatre will return, this should help: Milwaukee Film this morning announced not only its planned reopening date – Aug. 10 – but also the first two velarias para cocheras moda films showing at the new and improved movie theater: "BlacKkKlansman" and "McQueen."

The winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Spike Lee's "BlacKkKlansman" follows the true story of a black policeman in Colorado, who, as a part of an investigation, managed to infiltrate and even graduate to the head of the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. The film stars John David Washington (son of Denzel), Adam Driver and Topher Grace, along with Jordan Peele behind the scenes as producer.

The second selection for the new theater, "McQueen" is a documentary about the one-of-a-kind creative mind of British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who thrilled the fashion industry with his dark, savage works of art while also battling his own personal demons beyond the runway.

Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for more announcements and first looks inside the new Oriental Theatre – and, even better, see you at the movies soon.
